[ANGLÈS] Maldives is a developing country which is looking for ways to improve its economical situation. However, with its geography and characteristics, this growth seems limited, or at least very tough to achieve. This Islamic republic of 320,000 people is built over an archipelago of 1,200 islands (200 inhabited) along a north-south strip of about 1,000 km long and 100 km wide. Communications between the different parts of the nation are very slow and expensive, and small boats or seaplanes are used to move around; the country's electric power is obtained mostly by generators; the water comes from rain or desalination plants; and the average island size is 20 Hectares (Favro, 2010).
