This paper analyzes a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with symmetric winding configuration running under demagnetization fault. The analysis is based on 2D FEM simulations which includes rotor magnet skewed effects. Two types of demagnetization are analyzed; uniform and local demagnetization. It is proposed the use of zero-sequence voltage component for fault diagnosis purposes. Simulations and experimental results show the suitability of the method.Peer Reviewe
