La estrategia para empresas con sede en el Valle de Aburrá

Sometimes it is necessary to think in a different way, so that a wide range of trends of thought can be found which define the concept of strategy. In consequence, from what was expressed in previous centuries about the use of this term in the military context and in the war field, we have arrived, in the last four decades, to the understanding of the differences of what is known from the vision of the business administration and the business world, taking the growing importance of the literature about the study of the strategies affecting the company as a whole. The analysis of this paper is focused on the definition of ‘strategy’, proposed by Henry Mintzberg, from five points of view. This is, strategy as a: plan, action guidelines or ploy, pattern, position and perspective. However, since this is as a paper to reflect on, it allows an open possibility to revise the concept of strategy from other conceptions. This text also approaches the knowledge of the meanings of strategy found in companies located in the Aburrá Valley (Medellin, Colombia), which are finally translated into every-day practices at the different levels of implementation to a corporate and business level - differentiation, specialization, diversification, entering-business definition, among others - seeking sustainability and business growth.En ocasiones es necesario pensar en forma diferente para poder encontrar diversas corrientes de pensamiento en relación a qué es estrategia, de allí que a partir de lo expresado siglos atrás en el empleo de este término en el ámbito militar y en el campo de la guerra, se ha pasado en las últimas cuatro décadas a la comprensión de las diferencias de lo que se conoce desde la visión de la administración de empresas y del mundo de los negocios, a partir de una creciente importancia en relación con la literatura acerca del estudio de las estrategias que afectan a la empresa como un todo. El análisis de este artículo se fundamenta en la defi nición de estrategia propuesta por Henry Mintzberg, desde cinco ángulos de visión, la estrategia como: plan, pauta de acción o estratagema, patrón, posición y perspectiva. Sin embargo, siendo este artículo de reflexión deja abierta la posibilidad de revisar el concepto de estrategia desde otros puntos de vista. El texto se acerca también al conocimiento de los signifi cados de estrategia que subyacen en empresas situadas en el Valle de Aburrá (Medellín, Colombia), los que fi nalmente se traducen en prácticas cotidianas en los diferentes niveles de su implementación a nivel corporativo y de negocios —especialización, diferenciación, diversifi cación, defi nición de negocios a ingresar, entre otros— en busca de sostenibilidad y crecimiento empresarial
