UJI EFEKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BAWANG BOMBAY (Allium cepa L) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus Aureus

ABSTRACT Background: The widely use of traditional medicine by the public due to the natural effect itself, easily obtainable, affordable price, and does not produce any side effects. One of the traditional medicine is onion. Onion contain many substance antibacterials agent such as flavonoids, pectin, allisin, and saponins. Objective: To know the antibacterial effect of the extract of onion (Allium cepa L) and the most effective concentration in the growth of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: This research is experimental lab Post test only control group design. The test plants is (Allium cepa L) which is divided into 6 groups, namely the positive control group (ciprofloxacin 500 mg), a negative control group (Aquadest), and extract the onion (Allium cepa L) with 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% concentrations. Measurement of the inhibitory zones done after each concentration incubated for approximately 24 hours at 37OC. The analyze data using the Statistical program Product Service and Solutions (SPSS) by the method of One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Post Hoc Duncan Test. Research results: The results showed that extracts of onion (Allium cepa L) has the minimum inhibition ability against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. With the value of inhibition ability is 19.5 mm at the highest concentration that is 40%. Conclusion: The extracts of onion (Allium cepa L) has the power of drag against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and the most effective concentration that is 40%. Salah satu dari obat tradisional adalah bawang bombay. Bawang bombay mengandung senyawa yang bersifat antibakteri seperti flavonoid, pektin, allisin, dan saponin. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak bawang bombay (Allium cepa L) dan konsentrasi yang paling efektif dalam pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Metode : Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental laboratorium Post test only control group design. Tanaman uji yang di gunakan adalah bawang bombay (Allium cepa L) yang di bagi menjadi 6 kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol positif (ciprofloxacin 500 mg), kelompok kontrol negatif (aquadest), dan kelompok ekstrak bawang bombay (Allium cepa L) dengan konsentrasi 10%, konsentrasi 20%, konsetrasi 30%, dan konsentrasi 40%. Pengukuran zona hambat dilakukan setelah masing-masing konsentrasi diinkubasi selama kurang lebih 24 jam pada suhu 37oC. Data yang diperoleh dianalisa menggunakan program Statistical Product Service and Solutions (SPSS) dengan metode One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) dilanjutkan dengan uji Post Hoc Test Duncan. Hasil penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak bawang bombay (Allium cepa L) memiliki daya hambat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Dengan tingkat nilai daya hambat 19.5 mm pada konsentrasi tertinggi yaitu 40%. Kesimpulan: Ekstrak bawang bombay (Allium cepa L) memiliki daya hambat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan konsentrasi paling efektif yaitu 40%.
