We describe the current image of public libraries in the mass media in Spain, to detect the evolution of messages, attitudes and values with respect to the existing stereotypes. The aim is to promote understanding and effective use of mass media in the construction of a public image of public libraries. The mass media are the vehicle for transmitting images and stereotypes that although partial or unfair impact on expectations, desires and uses that are made, and we must know to transform them or rely on them
