Localización e identificación de las revistas universitarias para su integración en repositorios institucionales. El caso de la Universitat de València

Objectives. Prior to starting up the University of Valencia's (UV) institutional repository, we assessed this institution's real output of periodical publications and drew up the most comprehensive list possible. We also described the visibility of the contents on the Internet. Method. We searched the ISSN database and the UV's library catalogue for journals in which the UV is included in the statement of responsibility. Results. These two sources did not provide sufficient information, as the University was not listed in all the relevant journals as a publishing entity. In total, 162 journals were found, of which 34.6% are still published. Many have been out of print since the 1990s. The department was the university body that was responsible for most publications. There were very few commercial publishing companies and the highest output of publications occurred in the 1990s. Many of the UV journals were published in the fields of humanities and social sciences. The journals that are still published have high visibility on the Internet, partly due to the Dialnet service. This is a positive factor for a future repository as it ensures the interoperability of contents, despite the low use of platforms that comply with the OAI-PMH protocol, such as the OJS. Many UV journals that can be found on the Internet do not state their institutional affiliation, very few explicitly include information on content copyright, and only one is licensed with Creative Commons. The results indicate that the UV does not currently meet the ideal conditions for incorporating its journals into an institutional repository. Consequently, issues need to be resolved that are mainly related to organizational and publishing aspects
