Taller sobre Servicios Bibliotecarios Multiculturales

Trough this work, we intend to spread several materials used in the workshop called “Servicios Bibliotecarios Multiculturales” (Multicultural Librarian Services) organized by AECI in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia on November 12 to 16, 2007. It includes contents, ideas, experiences and bibliography shared by 16 librarians from Latin-American countries, such as Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru. A real collective discernment reached through the analysis of the bibliographical literature and also improved for personal experiences, result in a bunch of valuables contributions from the course attendance, that allow to bring up quite new prospects about the very complex concept of “multiculturalidad”. Focusing in the IFLA guidelines for the librarian services into the multicultural communities, the analysis of the document has generated several statistical references in order to achieving all the proposed aims, according with those guidelines. The attendants made their individual rapports, each one having in mind the results obtained in their own libraries, according with responsibility for supply, librarian materials, intercultural services and materials, technical and extension services and personal and special groups. The tools generated in this workshop through and very interdisciplinary job, allow the possibility of fulfill diverse projects of librarian attention in the middle of different cultures, with concretes aims in order to an effective social inclusion. The present work also allows to have a real situational analysis of survey libraries in reference with librarian services for different ethnically, linguistically and/or culturally conformed minorities. Trough such analysis we are able to verify that all those required and desirable conditions could be further to reach in Latin-America
