The digital library. Challenges and solutions for the new Millenium. Bologna, June 17-18 '99

The first day focused about two main topics: copyright and electronic publishing. Copyright is a very 'hot topic' everywhere in this period. A system of integrated services within the project CILEA Digital Library and Biblioteca telematica italiana were presented. Some problems and initiatives in the field of cooperation – in particular in biomedic sciences – were discussed at the 'Project' session during the second conference day. Italian situation was treated about the development of cooperation ways and a service managed within the CDL overall project (called Sistema Bibliotecario Biomedico Lombardo - SBBL). The other two sessions of the conference were dedicated to: 1) standards and protocols and 2) electronic document delivery. There were discussions about both the contradictions which appear when we try to manage some problems linked to the indexing of information available on the Internet, and the problems linked to the need of preserving documents in electronic format. It's necessary to overcome – for ILL too – the proprietay module in order to reach open standards: InterLibraryLoan is very important, also as a possible alternative to subscription
