Libraries expect from journal publishers that they allow self archiving; from authors, libraries expect that they provide their papers via personal websites, institutional, or subject repositories. But do librarians and library associations provide their own publications open access? This paper examines the situation of free access to Austrian literature on librarianship. Reasons why librarians are reluctant to provide their papers open access are identified. Those reasons are related to professional culture, knowledge, usability, time, and legal aspects. Finally, potential solutions are provided
