The algorithm of extraction and separation of vertebrae from collections of CT images is presented. For this purpose so-called topograms are used. The topogram image is a 2D image of whole patient body made from above. The algorithm finds automatically the spinal [vertebral] column and then separates vertebrae. It is designated for automatic and semi-automatic separation and counting vertebrae on collections of 2D CT images
