Socio-Economie Conditions of Spatial Differentiation of Cultural Reception in Poland

Problems of measurement and reasons of spatial differentiation of reception of culture are discussed in the elaboration. Usefulness of the taxonomie method of development distance worked out by Z. Hellwig (1968) has been evaluated. The method has allowed to identify and define: — level of development of participation in culture of each voivodeship, — cultural distances between regions, — regions less developed and those showing regress tendency, — changes occuring in voivodeships in time, their causes and values, which should be reached by them to equal other more advanced voivodeships, — a model which should be followed. The discussed method was used in analysis of situation in reception of culture in Poland in the years 1960-1970. It was valuably suplemented in the sphere of determination of differentiation reasons by correlation analysis and regression equations. The results suggest that spatial differentiation of cultural reception in Poland in the years 1960 - 1970 was caused above all by possibility of reception of goods of culture and then by size of cultural institutions and frequency of presented programmes (and not by economic or social accessibility of these goods). A decrease in development level of cultural reception occured in Poland within the examined period.
