Politics Beyond Form. Ontological determinations of poststructuralist political philosophy

Wydział Nauk Społecznych: Instytut FilozofiiCelem pracy jest prezentacja ontologicznych podstaw teorii filozoficznych zaliczanych do poststrukturalizmu oraz wpływu tych podstaw na rozwijane w ich obrębie koncepcje polityczności i polityki. W obrębie filozofii poststrukturalistycznej można wyróżnić dwa typy ontologii. Ontologie transcendencji, reprezentowane przez teorie Alaina Badiou, Slavoja Žižka, Ernesto Laclau i Chantal Mouffe oraz Giorgio Agambena, zakładają istnienie transcendentnej instancji organizującej rzeczywistość (znaczącego, liczenia-jako-jedno) oraz przyznają podmiotowi rolę czynnika ontologicznie konstytutywnego. Ontologie immanencji, reprezentowane przez teorie Michela Foucaulta, Gilles’a Deleuze’a i Antonio Negriego, pojmują byt jako produktywne i dynamiczne źródło nieustannej innowacji; jest on utożsamiany z siłą wewnętrznego różnicowania się (stawania-się-innym). Przyjmowany typ ontologii owocuje odmiennym podejściem do problemów filozofii polityki. Podczas gdy ontologie transcendencji skupiają się na wyznaczaniu specyfiki tego, co polityczne oraz konstruowaniu uniwersalnego podmiotu działania politycznego, ontologie immanencji koncentrują się na przedstawianiu politycznego eksperymentu czy też innowacji jako złożonego, heterogenicznego procesu, obejmującego różne sfery rzeczywistości i odmiennych aktorów.The aim of this dissertation is the presentation of ontological assumptions and determinations of poststructuralist philosophy, as well as description of the influence of these assumptions on theories of the political and politics, developed in this field. Poststructuralist philosophy can be divided in two groups according to the type of ontology assumed. Ontologies of transcendence (theories of Alain Badiou, Slavoj Žižek, Giorgio Agamben, Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe) assume the existence of a transcendent inastance (the signifier, counting-as-one) as the principle of organization of reality. They also grant the subject the status of ontologically constitutive factor. Ontologies of immanence (theories of Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze and Antonio Negri), on the other hand, conceive of being as productive and dynamic source of constant innovation; it is also identified as power of internal differentiation (becoming-other). These two ontological paradigms lead do different approaches to the questions of political theory. Whereas ontologies of transcendence concentrate on the specificity of the political and on the construction of the universal subject of political agency, ontologies of immanence stress the importance of political experiment or innovation, understood as complex, heterogenous project, entailing different spheres of reality and engaging different actors
