The aim of this study is to investigate what unaccompanied asylum-seeking children need according to the staff working at the homes where they are living. and how the staff tries to meet these needs. The method is qualitative and is based on interviews where six staff members were interviewed from two different homes. This study analyzes the relationship between the unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and the staff by using theoretical concepts such as attachment theory, self-determination theory and “another profession”. The results show that the staff thinks that what these children mainly need is to feel safe and to have someone to talk to. The staff also expressed that children need to be motivated.
