The purpose of this study is to examine how young women construct their identity in biographies in relation to their own mental health state, their self harm behavior and the psychiatric institution. Self-harm behavior is a growing problem, primarily for young women. I’ve used a narrative text-analysis to investigate how women construct their identity and to examine the differences between the authors. I chose to write about mental health problems due to personal and due to its recurrence to the education. The result of my analysis is that the women construct their identity foremost as a result of how the institution sees the individual and of how they look at their self harm behavior.
