In September 2003, a popular vote was held in Sweden with the question whether Sweden should or should not enter the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the debate with articles retrieved from a specific period, which was published within two weeks before the popular vote. The articles are retrieved from the Swedish newspaper ‘Svenska dagbladet’. To analyse the debate, dividing up the comments by proponents of the different political groups and parties would bring forward their argumentations of the various political position provided by voting or not voting in order to enter the EMU.
