The phenomenon of clusters has been thoroughly studied, and nowadays many governments have some kind of program to promote clusters. While many studies have been conducted on how clusters function, there are still uncertainties regarding their emergence and evolution. This thesis focuses on the concept of “cluster life cycles”, and have from theories regarding the concept formed a model for the creation and development of clusters. The theoretical model that forms the basis for this essay’s analysis makes assumptions on what factors would affect the emergence of clusters, and what characteristics that would be present during each life cycle phase.
