Kommuners arbete mot bättre citylogistik för en hållbar stadsmiljö

Around the world there is an increasing number of urban freight transports. A society is dependent on these transports to be able to fulfill the need of its citizens. However, a lot of these transportations emit pollutants and contribute to congestion, noise and traffic safety problems. Although there are many stakeholders and actors involved in these processes, this thesis will look at this problem from a municipality perspective. To be able to plan sustainable cities city planners need to plan well for urban freight transport, as well as try to decrease the negative externalities from that sector. This thesis will examine two case studies to find out how municipalities work to make the city logistics efficient. In the literature and through interviews it became clear that there was no agreed definition of city logistics, which further complicated the issue. It turned out that the municipalities worked in both different and similar ways, but that they had the same driving force and vision; to make the city more attractive. Among the ways that they worked, for example, public-private partnership, coordinated goods distribution, the dissemination of knowledge and regulations seemed to be the most advantageous. Although both cities identified city logistics as an important subject they also mention that the problems within those cities were not yet unmanageable, and that therefore city logistics was not a high priority yet
