Since entering the European Union in 1995, Sweden’s union membership has affected different aspects of national politics. One such aspect is the changed role of the national administration. The aim of this thesis is to study how national agencies handle their responsibility of making information regarding their participation in the EU accessible to the public, and what effect it has on democratic principles. A democratic society demands transparency and political participation for its citizens. By examining national agency websites and their publications regarding EU-committees, the results show that national agencies lack in making information accessible to citizens. According to several scholars, the EU membership has led to an unclear role- and responsibility distribution between the national administration agencies and the Swedish government. This could give reason to why the agencies lack accessible information. Also, the legislation has been shown to not fully cover agencies responsibility of making information accessible to the public.
