This thesis highlight why the goals of increased cycling are not achieved, despite the fact that many municipalities establish policies and strategies to increase the use. Malmö and Mölndal have been reviewed based on how they work with bicycle planning, how cycling has developed over the past years and how the bicycle infrastructure is today. A culture of benefit to cyclist’s identity must be created for more people to choose to ride bikes, which only can occur when cyclists expectations for speed, safety and comfort is considered. Function mixed areas with short distances, where people's everyday activities are grouped, is favourable for increasing cycling.
