Faktorer bakom kriminaliteten i Södra Innerstaden, Malmö - utifrån teorin om social desorganisation.

During the year 2008, the government offered a number of different municipalities in Sweden a development agreement. The purpose of the agreement was to reduce the number of districts in Sweden, where a high proportion of residents feel a sense of exclusion, poor health and insecurity. In connection with the development agreement the Crime Prevention Council and the Statistics Office produced statistics on safety, and the demographic and socio-economic conditions in the 38 selected districts that were included in the development agreement. Thru the results it was found that there were three districts that had the highest number of reported crimes. One of these districts was Södra Innerstaden in Malmö. As a result of this background, the study has chosen to study the area Södra Innerstaden , which today belongs to the district Innerstaden in Malmö. The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that contribute to crime in the district of Södra Innerstaden, based on the theory of social disorganization. The purpose of this paper can be divided into two different questions, which need to be answered. The first question is: What is the underlying factors contributing to crime in Södra Innerstaden Malmö? The second question is: Can the local problem be explained with the help of social disorganization theory? This study is mainly based on previous research from secondary sources, which means that the study has been made in the form of a qualitative study. The sources have been drawn from previously published sources and a qualitative semi - structured interview has also been used as a data collection method. The study concludes that the district Södra Innerstaden has heterogeneous composition of the population and a low socio-economic status which are two out of three district characteristics that the social disorganization theory identifies as contributing factors to crimes within a district. However, no information regarding the district characteristic high population mobility was found in Södra Innerstaden. Therefore, it is not possible to conclude if this criterion is applicable in Södra Innerstaden. It should be noted that some other factors for the crimes in Södra Innerstaden has been found. However these do not come from the theory of social disorganization. This means that the theory of social disorganization is not sufficient, but can only partially identify the factors that contribute to crime in the district of Södra Innerstaden in Malmö city
