Vem äger det offentliga rummet? En kritisk diskursanalys av privatiseringsmotioner mellan åren 1990 och 2000

Over the last two decades there has been a significant increase in privatised areas in the Swedish public sector. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how this has been motivated and formulated in the Swedish parliament. This is done by analysing the motions for privatisation that have been presented in the Swedish parliament between the years of 1990 and 2000. The hypothesis is that there are discourses concerning privatisation and nationalisation that need to be discussed and problematised. This will be done by using a theoretical framework mainly consisting of theories presented by David Harvey, Henri Lefebvre and Jürgen Habermas. By using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis I have discovered four main discourses. The first examines how the word ''customer'' is used in the motions. The second and third discourse investigates how the concept if effectiveness and development is used in the proposals. Lastly the discourse on neutrality is examined. The result I have reached is that privatisation serves to increase economic segregation in society and can also have an impact on how citizens participate in a democracy. I suggest that further research needs the be done on the actual consequences of privatisation
