Landskronas södra industriområde - sker ett läckage av markföroreningar via dagvattensystemet?

Landskrona is a distinct industrial city and has since the 1700th century had many major industries, which has contributed to negative effects on the environment and caused pollution in soil and water. When the land wasn’t enough and more space was needed for exploitation, the area started to get filled up with dredged and filling material. Many of the industries are suspected to have dumped waste as a part of the padding. This has contributed to the area being contaminated by oil, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals. The purpose of this exam work is to evaluate whether a leakage of chemicals in the stormwater pipes in the industrial area in Landskrona is taking place. As a part of the aim suitable indicator chemicals must be found, investigate whether a transportation of chemicals is happening in the pipelines and clarify if chemicals from the soil end up in stormwater pipes. The industrial area in Landskrona consists of heterogeneous soil with filling material, organic material and permeable soils. Existing soil art is gravel, gravelly moraine, coarse silt and sand. Indicator pollutants and sampling stations were chosen by going through several surveys done in the industrial area. In year 2005 Tyréns accomplished a survey regarding pollution at the property Kulverten 3. The results from the soil samples showed levels for both zinc and cyanide many times higher than the limit for MKM. In year 2008 another survey was done at the property Generatorn 7. The soil samples showed that levels of BTEX overstepped present limits for both soil and water. Also worth noticing is that the possibility of BTEX spreading in the soil outside the sample area is big since levels of the chemicals were high outside Generatorn 7. Both these properties have stormwater piped leading to Öresund. Both soil and stormwater samples were taken at Generatorn 7 and Kulverten 3 as well as at the outlet at Lundåkrahamnen. Locations for the samples were chosen as close to the pipes as possible where drilling could be performed and where the ground wasn’t paved. Soil samples were taken with help of a drilling vehicle. Water samples were taken in stormwater wells connected to wiring leading down to Lundåkrahamnen with outlet to Öresund. Stormwater sampled were taken with help of a bailer held down the wells. The soil samples shows elevated levels of benzene, ethylbenzene and xylene at Generatorn 7. Only low levels of these chemicals were present at Kulverten 3 and at the outlet to Öresund. The levels of cyanide free and cyanide total were low at the outlet. Stormwater samples shows that BTEX is present at Generatorn 7. Low levels of cyanide are shown in stormwater at Kulverten 3. At the outlet to Öresund the levels of both cyanide and BTEX in the stormwater are low. It is positive that the levels of both BTEX and cyanide are low at the outlet. It shows that the pollutants haven’t spread from the contaminated areas. I think it’s necessary to conduct a more extensive soil and stormwater survey to get more information about the contamination situation in the entire industrial area in Landskrona
