Att arbeta med psykisk kris -En kvalitativ studie om sjukhuskuratorer

Mental crisis is according to Johan Cullberg (2006) a reaction pattern in which a person suffering from acute internal or external stresses which occur when one's life experiences and behaviour are not sufficient to cope with the new life situation you are in. We think that we as future social workers often can come across mental crisis in our work. As we think we don´t learn enough about mental crisis in our education we were worried about what this means for our future profession in social work. We have made a qualitative study and used semi-structured interviews. We chose to interview six counselors at a children 's Hospital who daily face guardians in crisis to examine how they perceive their role and influence in the crisis. To analyse their perceived role and influence, we have used the theoretical concepts of personal, private and professional by Greta Marie Skau, Theory and Practice by Magdalene Thomassen and Role and Professional Identity by Lisbeth Johnsson and Hans Lindgren. In our results, we concluded that all the interviewees think it is not enough education about crisis in the education for social work to work as a counselor in a hospital. However, it emerged from the interviews that the experience has a major impact on knowledge about meeting people in crisis. Through this experience you get comfortable in your professional role and identity. As a counselor in a hospital it is required that you are personal in your contact with the patients, but it is important to distinguish between your own feelings and the patient's feelings, as it is easy to be affected
