Ledande individers effekt på organisationen

This study is conducted with a focus on managers and its different forms as found in a nation wide Swedish bedroom specialist-organisation, Sängjätten. Leadership is perceived in many forms and depends on a large variety of factors within and outside the organisation. One of these factors is ownership and the characteristics these imply on the forms in which the manager works. Within the studied organisation there were two distinctive forms of ownership regarding to the stores we studied; such as franchising compared to the franchiser owned through a national headquarter, so-called “self-proprietary stores”. Our objective for the study is to focus on the characteristics these different types of leadership present and how these in turn can, on a theoretical level, effect the organisation. The method used when exploring this subject was abductive in nature, aware of the empirical world using relevant theoretical tools to analyse the subject we studied. We’ve focused closely on the characteristics and behaviour to the phenomenon of the leader within the organisation. This provides us to get a clear subject area to study and at the same time exclude other individuals or organisations which wasn’t relevant to the present thesis. The theories applied range from the corporate governance theory of stakeholders, to Watson’s theory of strategic exchange process, all with the goal of revealing and describing the subject studied from both an external and internal perspective. Through analysing both types of leadership and managerial conduct from the different forms of ownership, we clearly saw typical characteristic for respective category, franchisee managers and employed managers. The franchisee leaders had a greater motivation to work more dedicatedly, due to the risk of failing would imply negative economical effect for themselves in a higher degree, contrarily to the employed managers. Although the employed managers were more willing to take risks and make organisational changes, they didn’t have enough to gain or lose through accomplishing beyond the demands given. The positive tendencies revealed during the study are the ones leaders should strive to accomplish in the future. One factor is the entrepreneurial spirit, which is sought for and could be achieved under the conditions the infrastructure offers the franchiser to the nation wide chain of stores. These leadership qualities are of such high quality and importance which the franchisees would prioritise the chain of stores and their wellbeing, before their own personal short-range economical gain
