Large public investments within one particular area stimulate market growth and more companies will choose to establish themselves within this industry. When the market environment changes, even major players with large market shares will have to review their activities and adapt to the new competitive situation. Streamlining operations and minimizing unnecessary costs are key factors in preventing loss of market share to competitors, who have built their entire business based on current conditions. Banverket Projektering has had a leading market position within its field of operation for a considerable period. Now as an independent department within the government authority Banverket, there are still some old and unbusinesslike traditions left within the corporate culture. This can be clearly observed in areas such as deviation handling and experience feedback. Not all deviations are reported and similar faults continue to occur. The importance of an efficient deviation handling and experience feedback has to be implemented within the organization at all levels. This can only be possible with continuous training and information regarding company work procedures and quality management routines. A further improvement would be to redistribute the responsibilities within these areas. A learning organization moving in the right direction should be the ultimate goal for this work.
