Jesus är vägen, sanningen och livet - därför är islam...

”Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, therefore Islam is… - the view of Islam and Muslims in the student organization Credo Lund” is an inductive, quantitative interview-study. The purpose of the study is to investigate how a person, convinced of Christianity‟s exclusivity when it comes to salvation, relates to and talks about Islam and Muslims. The material consists of interviews with four members of the evangelical student movement Credo Lund. The interviews focus on the interviewees‟ ideas, attitudes and viewpoints on Islam and Muslims. In addition, the study gives an insight into some aspects and methods of short-term mission. Finally the results are interpreted within the theoretical framework of Edward Said‟s Orientalism. The main question, with sub-questions, that is answered is the following: - How do members of Credo Lund perceive and speak about Islam and Muslims? - Is Islam viewed as a true religion, does it lead to salvation, can it teach us something? - How is the Koran as a holy scripture viewed, and what thoughts are there concerning Mohammad? The research shows: - That the level of knowledge about Islam was, by the interviewees themselves, considered low. - That there, in spite of the low level of knowledge, are many speculations and thoughts about Islam as a religion, of which the majority are negatively charged. - That this knowledge seems to be strongly influenced by the different contexts, often of short-term mission, that the interviewees have been active in. - That many of the speculations and thoughts are circulating within Credo Lund, and are shared by a number of people within the movement. - That these speculations and thoughts about are presented in such a way that they function as negative contrasts to Christianity. - That one can state that these speculations and thoughts, interpreted within the framework of Edward Said‟s Orientalism, say more about the members‟ own ideas about Christianity and Christians than it does about Islam and Muslims. - Some aspects of the methodology and goals of short-term mission
