The aim for this thesis is to investigate the introduction of the watermills in Scandinavia. The major question is “Did the Cistercian monks introduce the mills in Scandinavia?”. The traditional view is that so is the case, the Cistercian monks introduced almost all new technology during the medieval times. But during the last decades some investigations have shown that this is exaggerated in the case of iron making and agriculture. And because of this I thought it would be interesting to undertake an investigation of there involvement in the spread of watermill.
