Den normativa mångkulturalismen - en diskursanalys

Sweden is often perceived as a multicultural welfare state and “the Swedish model” has been role model for other countries to follow. Whilst cultural and religious pluralism have been celebrated, the potential areas of conflicts that can occur in a multicultural society have been neglected. This may be challenging as we are confronted with situations where intolerance is expected to be met with tolerance, motivated by respect for religion and culture. Lately the debate about multiculturalism has increased in media and different perspectives of what multiculturalism is or is not have continuously been discussed. The debate is split between two different arguments where each argument excludes the other. Criticism of certain cultural or religious traditions is perceived of the left-winged as intolerant, respectless towards other cultures as well as xenophobic. The purpose of this essay is to analyze in which way the absence of debate about multiculturalism on the political arena has affected the application of the human rights in Sweden
