Ryssland och Georgien konflikten - En utvärderande fallstudie av den demokratiska freden

In august 2008 an armed conflict between Russia and Georgia broke out, also called the Five-day War. This conflict was a result of unsolved problems with the breakout regions of Georgia: South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It is still an ongoing conflict. This case shows signs of a breach against the democratic peace proposition, which is one of the classic theories within International Relations. It is built upon that democracies do not start, or rarely, war with each other. The armed conflict between Russia and Georgia is approached as a critical case, as it is a theory testing study. It is analyzed on the basis of the democratic peace proposition, to be more specific the minimum requirements imposed for a breach to be present. It is different parts, especially regime type, and not the entire conflict, that are analyzed. A clear conclusion is drawn that a breach against the democratic peace proposition is not present in this case
