La voie de biosynthèse des purines est un réseau métabolique conservé de procaryotes à l'Homme, assurant l'homéostasie de l'ATP et du GTP. Les purines peuvent être synthétisées de novo, réutilisées ou produites par interconversion de métabolites existants à l'aide de la voie dite de recyclage. De plus, les intermédiaires peuvent agir en tant que métabolites signals régulant l'expression génique.
