Datset for Construct Validity of Beck's Hopelessness Scale (BHS): Analysis trough S-1 Bifactor Model in a Large Argentine Sample.

The factor structure of the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) is still a topic of debate. It becomes necessary to propose models for resolving these disputes. One such approach is the bifactor S-1 model, a powerful modeling approach that gives G an unambiguous meaning and avoids anomalous results associated with fully symmetrical modeling. The main objective of this work is to verify the fit of a bifactor S-1 model for BHS, contrasted with other models that contemplate methods effects too. Based on a large open mode on-line sample (N = 2,164), a series of confirmatory factor analyses, partial polychoric correlations including affective and suicide ideation variables, and receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) procedures with high and low suicide ideation groups were applied. The results indicate that the S-1 bifactor model with positive words as referenced items achieves the best and optimal fit indices. The following partial polychoric correlations and ROC curve obtained values were in consistence with these previous results. The data obtained allow us to give more clarity and precision on the factorial structure of the BHS, showing construct and external validity evidence of a computerized version of the BHS
