The frequency of certain forms of distal radius fractures treated at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb in 2017 and 2018

Cilj: Svrha ove retrospektivne studije bila je odrediti učestalost pojedinih oblika prijeloma distalnoga radijusa liječenih u Kliničkom bolničkom centru Zagreb tijekom 2017. i 2018. godine, te usporediti postoji li razlika u učestalosti između prethodno navedenih godina. Cilj je također bio usporediti pojavnost određenih prijeloma u ovisnosti o dobi i spolu ispitanika. ----- Materijali i metode: Ovo istraživanje obuhvatilo je ukupno 93 ispitanika liječenih u KBC Zagreb tijekom 2017. i 2018. godine. Ispitanici su uključeni u istraživanje uvidom u dostupnu medicinsku dokumentaciju unutar Bolničkog informacijskog sustava. Za svakoga ispitanika prikupljeni su podatci o dobi i spolu, godini u kojoj je prijelom nastao te inicijalne radiološke snimke svakog pojedinog ispitanika. U ovom istraživanju, korištena je Frykmanova klasifikacija prijeloma distalnoga radijusa. ----- Rezultati: U 2018. godini, zabilježeno je 58,30% više fraktura distalnoga radijusa u odnosu na prethodnu, 2017. godinu. U promatranom dvogodišnjem intervalu, najčešća fraktura prema Frykmanu bila je tip VIII dok je najrjeđa bila tip VI. Ženski spol povećava rizik od nastanka fraktura. (p=.028). Prosječna dob žena uključenih u istraživanje, iznosila je 66,63 godina, a muškaraca 49,13 godina. Starija životna dob značajno je povezana s učestalošću prijeloma (p=.00000257). ----- Zaključak: Istraživanje je pokazalo kako postoji značajan porast broja prijeloma distalnoga radijusa u jednogodišnjem periodu. Potvrdilo je kako postoji značajna razlika u spolu bolesnika s dominacijom žena. Prema rezultatima istraživanja, najugroženija skupina za nastanak prijeloma s žene postmenopauzalne dobi.Objective: The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the frequency of certain forms of distal radius fractures treated at the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb in 2017 and 2018, and to compare whether there is a difference in frequency between the aforementioned years. The aim was also to compare the occurrence of certain forms of fractures depending on the age and sex of the examinees. ----- Materials and methods: This study included a total of 93 examinees treated at KBC Zagreb during 2017 and 2018. Respondents were included in the study by inspecting the available medical documentation within the Hospital Information System. For each respondent, data on age and gender were collected, the year in which the fracture occurred and initial X-ray recordings of each individual subject. In this study, Frykman's classification of distal radius fracture was used. ----- Results: In 2018, 58.30% more distal radius fractures were recorded compared to the previous 2017th year. In the observed two-year interval, the most common fracture, according, to Frykman was type VIII while the least common was type VI. Female sex increases the risk of fracture. (p =.028). The average age of women involved in the study was 66.63 years and men 49.13 years. Older age is significantly associated with the frequency of fractures (p =.00000257). ----- Conclusion: Research has shown that there is a significant increase in the number of distal radius fractures over a one year period. The study confirmed that there is a significant difference between the sex of respondents with a dominance of women.
