This study reviewed the literature on Reading Recovery, an early intervention program designed to improve first grade students reading performance. A review of the theoretical and research basis for Reading Recovery examined the effectiveness of the intervention. The following questions were addressed: (a) How was the Reading Recovery program developed? (b) What are the components of a Reading Recovery lesson? (c) What is the process of implementation for Reading Recovery? (d) What are the strengths and weaknesses of Reading Recovery? (e) What determines the effectiveness of this reading program?
