Topical Oxygen Therapy for Wound Healing

Background: Chronic wounds are a major health challenge affecting individuals. Objectives: This research aimed to evaluate the effects of topical oxygen therapy on the healing of chronic wounds. Methods: Four research studies were examined, with each study using a different method to apply oxygen to the wounds. Patients had diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and venous ulcers of varying grades, and were divided into a treatment group or a standard wound care group. Wounds were assessed throughout the study period. Results: At the end of each study, the number of patients with complete wound healing in the treatment groups was significantly greater than that of the number in the standard care groups. Wound area of the ulcers in the treatment groups was significantly lower than the wound area of the ulcers in the standard care groups. Conclusion: Topical oxygen therapy can successfully promote wound healing in patients with chronic wounds. Keywords: topical oxygen therapy, chronic wounds, wound healin
