Käthe Kollwitz was a German born artist who specialized in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. She is most known for her art cycles that depict how poverty, hunger, and war effect the working class. While she originally practiced realism, she is mostly recognized as an Expressionist. Kollwitz was the first woman elected into the Prussian Academy of Arts and was given honorary professor status. Kollwitz made a total of 275 prints, in etching, woodcut, and lithography.https://digitalcommons.ithaca.edu/handwerker/1000/thumbnail.jp
