Three Professors Promoted

Dr. Celesta Wine [1899-1981] was a professor of English at Winthrop from 1941 to 1965. Her area of expertise was 16th century literature. She married Dr. Stuart H. Shippey on May 31, 1961. Pugh, Jr. [1908-2008] was a professor of English at Winthrop from 1938 to 1947. Southern Literature was his specialty. He left Winthrop for Florida State University. His father Dr. Griffith T. Pugh, Sr. was the Bursar and Head, of the Mathematics Department at Winthrop from 1921 to 1936. Dr. Dorothy Jones [1912-2006] was a professor of Sociology at Winthrop from 1943 to 1978.
