The links between poetry and music are historical ones. However, the two arts have gradually acquired complete autonomy, with the exception of some musical forms (songs, Lieder, operas). It is therefore interesting to find out what poetry has retained from its musical origins. The rhythm of poems has been largely studied ; but sonorities have often been rarely considered as means of conveying significance. Our opinion is that poetry makes use of most of the traditional procedures of musical expression. We will examine two of these in this article : phonemic repetitions and oppositions.
