The Epigravettian chrono-cultural entity was defined in the 1960s by G. Laplace (1964) to describe the post-Gravettian lithic industries in Italy. At the time he pointed out the contrast between the apparent continuity from Gravettian to Mesolithic in Italy and the diverse breaks which occurred contemporaneously in Western Europe. Subsequently, the common view of this long period (10,000 years) is one of things remaining consistent through time over a wide geographical.
