By accessing gridded data from 1948 – present, including SSTs, precipitation measurements and multilevel atmospheric data from NOAA archives, the goal of this research is to accurately differentiate between monsoon precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico and to identify the moisture sources and climate linkages for each. Moisture flux analyses are used to determine the origin of moisture for the two regions. Correlation analysis will identify the relation between monsoon precipitation and sea surface temperatures, along with linkages to El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and other indices of low-frequency variability.
