IMPLEMENTASI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM KEGIATAN EKSTRAKURIKULER PENCAK SILAT

Currently, the progress of education in Indonesia becomes something that should be considered together. Students are not only given academic-related material but also given character education which is the main fortress that must be strengthened in the beginning of their life. Character becomes a very important thing since it will make students become a role models and have a good character. This must be done due to the rise of negative behavior by students who are considered by the community as a moral decline. This study has purpose to describe the character education through martial arts training of pencak silat. This study applied a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The informants of this study were 7 pencak silat trainers and 2 students who participated in the pencak silat and school teachers by selecting informants using purposive sampling techniques. The informants chosen were identification of the subject criteria, those who have been at the level of the blue belt and black belt. The data collection methods was using semi-structured interviews, the validity of the data was achieved using triangulation of data sources and the analysis technique used was thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that character education through martial arts training of pencak silat was started by providing habituation. This habituation was done by physical punishment and advice and also exemplifies direct behavior. Next, it is through the philosophy of the pencak silat movement where in every movement there is a character value that is given which is to always remember to God, always humble and work hard. Students then apply it in their daily lives, for example when they come to school, students become not late to come to school since they are taught about discipline in the pencak silat.
