Calculation of ecological flow using hydrological, hydraulic and habitat simulation methods in the Rimac River basin

Esta investigación aborda el análisis, evaluación y aplicación de los métodos para determinar el caudal ecológico en la cuenca del río Rímac. Se desarrollaron de manera directa los métodos hidrológicos, hidráulicos y simulación de hábitat, y de manera general, se analizaron los otros métodos existentes. Por un lado, el método hidrológico describe un procedimiento, realizando diversos tratamientos estadísticos de la serie de caudales naturales representativos (análisis de series temporales, caudales históricos, temperaturas mínimas y máximas, etc.) Por otro lado, para el método hidráulico se eligió un tramo crítico y se realizó una caracterización general de la zona en estudio, se desarrolló un levantamiento topográfico, en conjunto con las mediciones hidráulicas (área, profundidad, perímetro mojado, etc.) y el caudal en secciones transversales representativas, clasificadas por su sensibilidad biótica. De igual manera, con la modelación del hábitat acuático, se utiliza modelos hidráulicos unidimensionales, de profundidades y velocidades, cuyas simulaciones en las secciones transversales representativas se relacionan de una manera adecuada con los criterios de preferencia de las principales variables hidrobiológicas que determinan el hábitat para los diferentes organismos y sus estados de vida, en este caso la especie es el pejerrey de río. Los resultados indican que, para el método hidrológico los caudales ecológicos obtenidos se adecuan a la realidad del río Rímac y cumplen la presión hídrica para diferentes puntos de la cuenca como Río Blanco, San Mateo, Santa Eulalia y Chosica. Asimismo, el método hidráulico y de simulación de hábitat aseguran un caudal ecológico óptimo aguas abajo de Chosica, siempre y cuando se reduzca las fuentes de contaminación existentes.This research address with the analysis, evaluation and application of the methods to determine the ecological flow in the Rimac river basin. Hydrological, hydraulic and habitat simulation methods were developed directly, and in general, the other existing methods are analyzed. On the one hand, the hydrological method describes a procedure, performing various statistical treatments of the series of representative natural flows (analysis of time series, historical flows, minimum and maximum temperatures, etc.) On the other hand, for the hydraulic method a critical section was chosen and a general characterization of the study area was carried out, a topographic survey was developed, together with the hydraulic measurements (area, depth, wet perimeter, etc.) and the flow in cross sections representative, classified by their biotic sensitivity. Similarly, with the modeling of the aquatic habitat, one-dimensional hydraulic models of depths and velocities are used, whose simulations in the representative cross-sections are related in an adequate way with the preference criteria of the main hydro-biological variables that determine the habitat for the different organisms and their states of life, in this case the species is the river silverside. The results indicate that, for the hydrological method, the ecological flows obtained are adapted to the reality of the Rimac River and meet the water pressure for different points of the basin such as Río Blanco, San Mateo, Santa Eulalia and Chosica. Likewise, the hydraulic and habitat simulation method ensures an optimal ecological flow downstream of Chosica, as long as the existing sources of contamination are reduced.Tesi
