Abstract Author: Jehona Ziba and Qendresa Cani Title: Relatives who have developed a co-dependency This study is generally about support for relatives of people with alcohol addiction problems who have developed a co-dependency. More specifically, the study deals with the social worker's approach to this target group, the way in which they identify their co-dependency problems and their experience of working with it. Previous research points out the negative consequences of being a relative of an addict and believes it is important to help these people. However, there are various circumstances such as feelings of guilt and shame that prevent relatives from seeking help for social services. This study is qualitative, where the collection of the empirical material consists of six semistructured interviews. What we have come up with in the study of this study is that relatives who have developed a co-dependency are a stigmatized group trying to hide their situation from others. This, in turn, can lead to difficulties for social workers in discovering these problems to help them in good time. In addition, the study reveals that even though permanent co-dependency has not been diagnosed, social workers classify relatives who have developed codependents as a disease condition. But that in the work efforts there are no special initiatives that would distinguish co-dependency problems based on family problems
