Topološki polumetali trenutno su u fokusu istraživanja u fizici kondenzirane materije. Njihova niskoenergijska pobuđenja pokazuju zanimljive pojave poput ultravisoke mobilnosti nosioca naboja i kiralnih magnetskih efekata zbog čega su kandidati za brojne tehnološke primjene, i to u novoj generaciji elektroničkih uredaja, spintronici, kvantnim računalima, kemijskoj katalizi i slično. Osim toga, pružaju platformu za istraživanje Weylovih i Diracovih fermiona što je bitno za fiziku elementarnih čestica.
