Phytochemical analysis of biologically active compounds of Geranium macrorrhizum L. in Lithuania

Biodiversity of medicinal (aromatic) plant resources, scarce information on bioactive compounds and their properties in many species, including those growing in Lithuania, as well as increasing demand for naturalness of pharmacy and food were the main motivation aspects of the present study. Medicinal (aromatic) plants, their raw materials and biologically active compounds were investigated. The dynamics of their qualitative and quantitative indicators of their biologically active compounds determines the shelf life of the medicinal plant raw material and its quality [8]. The object of these analyses was Geranium macrorrhizum L. a perennial, medicinal plant of Geraniaceae Juss. family, coordinates on the map (54.870453, 23.908354). According to the literature, G. macrorrhizum extracts made from broadleaved herbal remedies act anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anesthetic, reduce blood pressure, and have a sedative effect. It also inhibits bleeding, cures, acute chronic colitis, gastric ulcer and gastritis. It is used in the treatment of hypertension in patients with kidney stones, rheumatism, gout, diarrhea, oral inflammation of the oral cavity, bleeding in the gum and bronchitis [1;3;5]. Externally, the roots of G. macrorrhizi are used to wash swelling wounds, to nourish swabs, to treat opal, skin diseases, itching, dermatitis of allergic origin and phlegmons [2;6]. As studies show, biologically active compounds (flavonoids and tannins) of G. macrorrhizum inhibit Gram (+) bacterias in vitro such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and growth of Candida albicans [4].[...]Gamtos mokslų fakultetasInstrumentinės analizės APCVytauto Didžiojo universiteta
