Case analysis of canine bacterial otitis in veterinary clinic X during 2016 - 2019 year

Canine otitis externa is one of the most commonly diagnosed diseases in veterinary practice. In cytological and bacteriological tests, bacterial strains are isolated in about 70% of cases. The aim of this study was to analyze the factors that can influence the onset of canine otitis, to isolate the predominant microflora in the ear canal and to determine the antimicrobial resistance of the isolated microorganisms. The study was conducted in 2016 - 2019 at the Small Animal Clinic X. A total of 30 patients with signs of otitis media were enrolled in the study. All dogs underwent clinical examination, ear examination, otoscopic, cytological and bacteriological examination. During bacteriological examination, strains of bacteria in the ear lobe were identified and bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents was determined. The most common bacteriological test was the isolation of Staphylococcus pseudointermedius (16.1%), Corynebacterium spp. (12.9%), Streptococcus spp. (12.9%) and Pseudomonas spp. (12.9 percent) of culture. The study found that Labrador Retriever breeds and crossbreeds were the major cause of bacterial otitis. The disease was reported in 43.8% of females and 56.3% of males. The disease was most common in summer (37.5%) and spring (37.5%). Deaf ears (81.3%) and dogs with short fur (56.3%) were also more likely to suffer
