The study on evaluation of insemination criteria in different dog breeds

Samples required for our study were collected in a private small animal clinic and dog kennel in 2018 - 2019. The samples were analyzed at the LUHS VA Animal Reproduction Laboratory. The volume of the final work is 49 pages, it consists of 20 illustrations, 1 table, 77 references (scientific articles, statistics, conference proceedings). The aim of this thesis was to investigate and compare the reproductive status of different breeds of males and bitches. The analysis of semen samples (n = 31) consisted of: examination of the volume of the second semen fraction, determination of sperm concentration, motility, viability, detection of sperm defects, pH of the prostatic fluid. Progesterone results of the bitches (n = 69) were collected at the onset of the fertile period and analyzed by oestrus day and month of onset of the fertile period. Based on the results of the research, we concluded that the weight of the sample of dogs we examined influenced the sperm volume - the volume of the second semen fraction in the small weight dog group (0.5 ± 0.52 ml) compared to the large weight dog group (2.8 ± 0.31 ml) differed significantly (p<0.05), sperm concentration was statistically significant (p<0.05) between medium weight dog group (446.93 ± 80.6 x 106/ml) and high weight dog group (237.0 ± 53.6 x 106/ml); The number of defected sperm heads, exclusively free heads in the small weight group (55.9 ± 29.9) was significantly different statistically (p<0.05) from the number of free heads in the large weight group (4.9 ± 2.3) and the amount of coiled tails between the small weight group (10.9 ± 3.8) and medium weight group (23.5 ± 4.3) were significantly different (p<0.05). A moderately strong positive correlation (r = 0.437) between the percentage of pathological tails and the weight of dogs was also observed (p<0.05). The age of dogs in our sample influenced the quality of sperm: sperm motility in the young dog group (69.0 ± 3.3%) was statistically different (p<0.05) from the old dog group (45.63 ± 4.9%); sperm motility had a negative correlation which was moderately strong (r = -0.694) with the age of dogs (p<0.01); the number of narrow sperm heads in the young dog group (61.0 ± 32.0) was statistically different (p<0.05) from the adult dog group (15.67 ± 8.8); the number of pathological spermatozoa with proximal droplets in the adult dog group (1.5 ± 0.4) was significantly different (p<0.01) from the old dog group (9.6 ± 4.6); the pH value of the prostatic fluid was statistically significantly different (p
