Science fiction cinema, which mirrors contemporary social anxieties, mainly offers apocalyptic and/or dystopic visions of the future, in which the political, economic and technological environment produces social/psychological alienation. Beyond a mere reflection, the genre also engages in a debate about the foundations of modern society. This article investigates its cultural impact and the interactions between the various economic and cultural players, and inquires to what extent the genre contributes to shaping or amplifying contemporary myths, fears and hopes.Perrez Raymond.
