Extension du domaine public de l’hygiène ? Des cités-jardins aux Gratte-Ciels: de l’usage villeurbannais des modèles urbains transnationaux sur un foncier limité

National audienceThis paper examines the case of Villeurbanne during the inter-war period and highlights the flow of both political ideas at municipal level and urban planning methods between cities concerned with rapid expansion. This research aims to look into the process by which local councils implemented solutions inspired either from the garden city movement or the skyscrapers model as a tool to tackle political and concrete issues. Two factors appear crucial in this strategy: the availability of public land and the prevalence of public health concerns.A partir du cas de Villeurbanne pendant l’entre-deux-guerres, cet article met en évidence une double circulation des idées politiques municipalistes et des modèles urbains transnationaux entre des villes préoccupées par leur extension mal maîtrisée. L’usage par une municipalité des modèles de cités-jardins et de gratte-ciel à des fins politiques et pratiques est questionné : le foncier municipal et l’imaginaire de l’hygiène sont ici déterminants dans le choix d’appliquer tel ou tel modèle
