Written by Antonio Valeriano in 1556, the Nican mopohua is the first narrative surrounding the Tepeyac apparitions, reflecting the nahuatl concept in the service of the message of Guadalupe. An archive of a dual cultural identity, the work merges and blends the nahuatl cogito with the evangelical message in such a way that the pagan Logos could become the Verbum of the New God. The aim of this study is to show how the Guadalupanian tale can be considered a strange variety of the Baroque, through an analysis of border rhetoric of the juxtaposition between Christianity and the ancient nahuatl religion.
