Percepción del personal de enfermería sobre los riesgos biológicos

Introduction. The risk for an infection by biological agents, is recognized as one of the most important in people who provide service in health area, particularly nursing professionals; because in their role as clinical specialists they have direct and continuous contact with the patient, performing daily activities of attention care that involve all kinds of procedures that imply the exposure to pathogens. Therefore the purpose of this investigation was to identify the degree of perception of the biological hazard of the nursing staff in a social security hospital of North Veracruz. Material and methods. Descriptive and crosssectional study, population of 92 nurses of a Social Security Hospital, non-probabilistic sampling for convenience, the Risk Perception Questionnaire (2008) was used. Results. 90 % knows the work risks, but the 65 % unknown the post-exposition to accidents protocols and the noti-cation forms, 80 % just uses gloves as an standard precaution, 70 % continues recapping the needles and pulling them apart from the syringe, but despite the above results, 74 % refers not having had an accident with sharp objects or uids in the last 12 months, the ones who do refer it was after the administration of a medication. Conclusions. The nursing staff knows the biological hazard to the ones they are exposed in their assistential work, besides uses only gloves for their protection as a standard precaution, but continues recapping the needles, increasing the risk of accidents.Introducción. El riesgo a infección por agentes biológicos, es reconocido como uno de los más importantes en personal que prestan sus servicios en el campo de la salud, particularmente los profesionales de enfermería; ya que en su rol de especialistas clínicos tienen contacto directo y continuo con el paciente, realizando actividades diarias asistenciales que involucran procedimientos de todo tipo, esto implica exposición a agentes patógenos. Por lo que el propósito de esta investigación fue identificar el grado de percepción de riesgo biológico del personal de eEnfermería de un hospital de seguridad social del norte de Veracruz. Material y métodos. Estudio descriptivo, transversal, población de 92 enfermeras(os) de un hospital de seguridad social, muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia, se utilizó el Cuestionario Percepción del Riesgo (2008). Resultados. 90 % conoce los riesgos de su trabajo, pero 65 % desconoce los protocolos post exposición a accidentes y los formularios de notificación, 80 % sólo utilizan los guantes como precaución estándar, 70 % continúa reencapuchando las agujas y separándolas de la jeringa, pero a pesar de los resultados anteriores, 74 % refiere no haber sufrido accidentes con objetos punzocortantes ni fluidos en los últimos 12 meses, quienes si lo refieren fue posterior a la ministración de medicamento. Conclusiones. El personal de enfermería conoce los riesgos biológicos a los que está expuesto en su trabajo asistencial, además utiliza solo los guantes para su protección como precaución estándar, pero continúa reencapuchando las agujas, aumentando el riesgo de accidentabilidad
